You'll have to tell emacs to look there by adding (setq load-path (cons "/X/Y" load-path)) ahead of the previous lines. Restart emacs, and try editing a latex file. You'll notice some menus entitled "Latex", "Command" and "Ref" which are specific to editing/compiling/debugging latex files. Many of these commands should be self explanitory. See the manual for more information. (The PredictiveMode user manual explains in more detail how to add support for new LaTeX packages; if you add support for a new package, consider contributing it so it can be included in the PredictiveMode package.) In other words, PredictiveMode provides full “Intellisense” features for writing LaTeX documents in Emacs. Emacs provides a TeX major mode for each of these variants: Plain TeX mode, LaTeX mode, DocTeX mode, and SliTeX mode. Emacs selects the appropriate mode by looking at the contents of the buffer. (This is done by invoking the tex-mode command, which is normally called automatically when you visit a TeX-like file. See Choosing Modes.).
